Part One - From California to the beaches of New Jersey - the story behind One Ocean Boulevard

Part One of a Two Part Series:
The Story of One Ocean Boulevard

It's interesting to hear the story of how a place, a time and a love of surfing evolved into creating the landmark building, One Ocean Boulevard. This unique building in Seaside Heights, New Jersey has the persona and the style of two of the east and west coast's popular resort empires.

So, it's not surprising to learn that John Hale, one of the partners of One Ocean Boulevard, LLC was born in Coronado, California, in close proximity to the Hotel del Coronado with its white façade topped with its blazing red roof.

Even so, when John's family moved to Connecticut, he brought with him a love of Spanish influenced architecture and his passion for the surfing life.

But it's hard if not impossible to surf along the shores of Long Island Sound. Luckily for John, his family moved close to one of the best surfing spots at the Jersey Shore in Seaside Heights. John says that "I spent many enjoyable days at the beach, body surfing and riding waves on canvas surf mats. Had my first experience riding a surfboard when I was 12 and surfing instantly became a passion."

Many say that the 1960's was the zenith of the classic long board era. John remembers that "The highlight of the summer was having a bird’s eye view of the East Coast Surfing Championships that were held by Casino Pier, directly in front of the arcade I worked in.." and that "this contest drew the best surfers from around the world directly to Seaside Heights to compete. There were ground swell conditions and off-shore winds for the entire contest that lasted for several days."

You would think that ideal conditions for surfing were only found in California. But John remarks, "Here in New Jersey the conditions were perfect for classic long board hot-dogging: chest-to-shoulder high, clean and glassy, razor-edge waves.

It was incredible to witness this event from such a close vantage point and watch the iconic surfers, whom I had seen in magazines demonstrate their mastery of the art of classic long board surfing; trimming, stalling, drop-knee turning, walking, and nose riding. Needless to say, this produced a high level of stoke for all!

During his teens and twenties, John enjoyed summer and the surfing life at Seaside Heights. Like so many past and present residents of the area, John spent his time as a lifeguard and worked at the amusement rides.

Forty years later, John's life was firmly entrenched in family, work and life in the Jersey Shore. Yet, the influence of California's beaches, its architecture and then a visit to Disney's Grande Floridian Hotel eventually led to the concept and then the beginning of the landmark condominium, One Ocean Boulevard.

The story continues in Part Two...

From Newark To The Casino Pier Pool - The Story Behind A Landmark Condominium

Casino Pier Pool -Saltwater Pool in Seaside Heights, NJ

Once upon a time in the city of Newark, there were many families of Italian or Irish descent who raised their families and spent summer weekends at the Jersey Shore. One of those Italian descendants is James Anzano, now a partner with John N. Hale of One Ocean Boulevard - Seaside Heights’ newest condominium.

As a child, James enjoyed hours of fun at the beach, boardwalk and the Casino Pier Pool in Seaside Heights. Little did he know at that time, that he would return blocks away from his favorite place in Seaside Heights to build a landmark condominium.

Yet, it wasn’t till after college that James returned to the barrier islands. First, he completed his degree in Economics and Accounting at Rutgers. By 23 years old, he earned a CPA and soon after completed his Master’s in Business Administration from the NYU Stern School of Business. After travels in Europe and Asia and his business interest in a manufacturing company, James settled in Ocean County close to the beaches of his youth.

After completing his studies, James and his wife, Linda and young family began to enjoy summers at the shore, an important part of their life. James remarks that “Basically, our family loves the beaches at the Jersey Shore!”

Fun at the beach of Seaside Heights, NJ

By 2007, James and business partner, John N. Hale, returned to the place they both loved as children to begin the construction project for One Ocean Boulevard. However, James says that in retrospect, buying the land for the project was “…not the best of timing” considering the state of the economy.

Then Super Storm Sandy hit the barrier islands, which caused delays to the construction schedule of One Ocean Boulevard. But, James says despite the delays caused by Sandy, the project continued and is now ready for its Grand Opening this year. James remarks that because of his years growing up in a hard-working family and through “hard work and perseverance, we were able to maintain the investment through difficult years.”

Life has evolved full circle for James Anzano with the Grand Opening of One Ocean Boulevard. Today, James Anzano’s view and outlook for Seaside Heights remains as promising and exciting as his trips to the Jersey Shore as a child.

The Top Three Reasons to Go Condo This Year at the Jersey Shore

1. If you're like most New Jerseyians and New Yorkers, you like the idea of being close to our famous beaches.

Besides the sand and surf, we have miles of boardwalks, waterparks, fishing, and boating. Throughout the year, (not just in summer) you can enjoy towns like Seaside Heights, Seaside Park or nearby Island Beach State Park. You may be ready for a new start, a new life. You want more time to enjoy life and you want to spend less time on maintaining your home.

2. Our shoreline is unparalleled on the east coast and we know it!
Like many of your friends, you research websites like Trulia to look for that special place to go to on the weekends. Or, maybe you're a 'Snow Bird' and you return every year to our beaches, your family and friends and to the memories you have of the Shore. Perhaps you fall into the 'Millennial' age group like one of our new homeowners. Lately, you and your friends have been discussing ways to invest in home ownership, but without the cost and drudgery of single family home maintenance.

3. You want to enjoy this summer without the hassle of renovating or building!

Whether young or older (yet feeling young), you might want to look into condo ownership this year. In a recent article in the New York Times about the New York City condo market, Stephen Kleigerman said "Everybody is designing to a very high level...". So too in New Jersey, the focus on building exemplary condominiums is also paramount as seen in One Ocean Boulevard, Seaside Heights' newest condominium. Just driving up to this new condominium, is a treat for the eyes with its white facade, ornate railings and memorable red shingle roof.

Balcony Views and Light Filled Rooms
Besides its beautiful maintenance free exterior setting, One Ocean Boulevard is ready for move-in day. The interior of each unit is designed with an open floorplan to encourage an easier, more relaxed lifestyle. By the time you are ready to pack your sandals, you can start to live by the beach, close to friends or family and all that our shoreline has to offer. No need to invest in renovating or restoring or removing old wallpaper - our walls are ready for your family photos. You'll rest easy, now that you have time to watch your favorite TV programs, instead of spending time with renovations.

Another great bonus (for a limited lucky few) is the chance to benefit from the interest only financing that is available to the first 7 qualified buyers.* Also, even though there are only 15 units, there is a price point for everyone. Each unit and every amenity at the condominium is designed for you - today's home buyer - people like you who want the best value, the best open plan floorplan and the easiest to maintain new condominium home

Sand, surf, seasons at the Shore. What are you waiting for?
